Lymphatic massage and its effects

Lymphatic massage is a pleasant and painless therapy that promotes overall regeneration and detoxification of the body. This type of massage is slow, gentle, and soothing, which stimulates the lymphatic system. The pressure during lymphatic massage is very light and individually tailored, as the lymphatic vessels are located just beneath the skin. Too much pressure could compress the vessels and thus prevent lymph drainage. Conversely, the gentle graduated pressure facilitates the flow of lymph towards the lymph nodes, where it is filtered and purified. The lymphatic vessels subsequently transport excess fluid from the tissues into the bloodstream, from where it is eliminated from the body.

This therapy is particularly effective in reducing swelling caused by excess fluid in the tissues and supports the function of the immune system. Lymphatic massage also improves the condition of the skin by helping to remove waste products and toxins and promoting the skin’s natural hydration. Each therapy session includes the release of the regional lymph nodes in the neck area. We recommend wearing comfortable underwear that does not constrict during the therapy, and ensure adequate hydration on the day of the session.

It is important to note that lymphatic massage is not suitable for individuals with untreated or poorly treated malignant tumors, acute febrile infections, acute venous diseases, unclear abdominal pain, glaucoma, pathological pregnancy (e.g., pregnancy-induced hypertension), heavy ongoing menstruation, heart failure, bronchial asthma, untreated hypertension, significant hypotension, hyperthyroidism, or swelling caused by heart, kidney, or liver diseases. If you experience any difficulties, please consult your doctor first.

FAQ

How often should I get a lymphatic massage?

Full body lymphatic massage is recommended every two months. My suggestion is spring, summer, autumn, winter.
For targeted or partial lymphatic massages, starting with 1–2 sessions per week for several weeks is beneficial, followed by a maintenance session once a month.

Why is the full body massage divided into 3 parts?
A congested body needs to be cleansed gradually. Ideally, these 3 parts should be completed within one week.

Is the massage suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
No.

Are there any contraindications for lymphatic massage?
Yes, lymphatic massage is not suitable for individuals with untreated or poorly treated malignant tumors, acute febrile infections, acute venous diseases, unclear abdominal pain, glaucoma, pathological pregnancy (such as pregnancy-induced hypertension), heavy ongoing menstruation, heart failure, bronchial asthma, untreated hypertension, significant hypotension, hyperthyroidism, or swelling caused by heart, kidney, or liver diseases. If you have any concerns or experience difficulties, it’s essential to consult your doctor before receiving a lymphatic massage.

Are there any side effects?
Lymphatic massage is usually safe and well-tolerated. Some clients may experience mild soreness or fatigue after the session, which is typically temporary. Staying hydrated after the massage can help alleviate any discomfort.

What should I wear during a lymphatic massage?
It is advisable to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing or undergarments that do not constrict during the massage.

How should I prepare for a lymphatic massage?
To prepare for your session, ensure you are well-hydrated before and after the massage. It’s also recommended to avoid heavy meals and alcohol on the day of your appointment.

What if I have specific concerns or areas I want to focus on?
When scheduling your appointment, feel free to discuss your specific concerns and goals with your therapist. They can customize the session to address your individual needs effectively.
